Bahrain’s Beach Clean
Bahrain is a beautiful Island surrounded with clear blue waters and scenic beaches dotted along its edges. Many of these beaches are privately owned and part of hotel properties. However there are many public beaches scattered around Bahrain that not many people know about.
Unfortunately, those who do visit these public beaches usually find a state of leftover trash by people who have visited before them, as well as what the tide has carried back to the shore. It’s an unfortunate sight and detrimental to the environment.
Two people have come together to tackle the plastic and rubbish on the beaches and are now running in their third consecutive clean.
Chef Kostas Magoulas and Hina Mirza dedicate a few hours every Friday morning to clean different beach locations. From two people, the initiative has quickly gained momentum with more people volunteering.
Whilst both Chef Kostas and Hina acknowledge that they alone cannot tackle this worldwide problem, they also believe that everyone can play a part, no matter how big or small, to help make a positive impact.
Microplastic & plastic pollution is hurting our planet marine life, wildlife and our health, at an alarming rate. Our oceans are slowly turning into a plastic dump and the effects on ocean life are chilling. Big pieces of plastic are choking and entangling turtles and seabirds and tiny pieces are clogging the stomachs of creatures who mistake it for food, from tiny zooplankton to whales. Plastic is now entering every level of the ocean food chain and even ending up in the seafood on our plates and these facts and figures are just a part of the bigger picture.
