Versace Spring Summer 2018 – An ode to Gianni
“This is a celebration of a genius, this is a celebration of an icon, this is a celebration of my brother – Gianni this for you.”
Versace’s Spring Summer 2018 collection was a tribute to its late founder, Gianni Versace. Donatella, his sister and current creative director, delved deep into her roots and that of the brands’ as well.
Presented in Milan’s Triennale museum, the collection involved some of the houses iconic prints, colors and style of dressing. Apart from the 90’s vibe that the prints set, the spirit of the earlier 1990s filled the air during the show. “I finally found the courage to really go to the archives and pay tribute to Gianni.” Donatella explained.
You couldn’t deny the sense of nostalgia and a sense of history amongst it all. To end with great grandeur, the curtain drew and Versace’s five all time, favorite models, or as Gianni called them “Family” were lined up.
Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen, all dressed in golden ensembles, walked down, and joined Donatella, as their personal anthem, George Michael’s “Freedom”, played in the background.
